Viral Video: Fortuner Gets Stuck at Goa’s Vagator Beach; Tourist Booked
VAGATOR, GOA – What began as a casual beachside outing turned into a high-stakes rescue operation on Sunday morning after a luxury SUV became stranded in the surf at Vagator Beach, sparking outrage online and swift action from local authorities.
The incident, which occurred in the Anjuna region, involved a Toyota Fortuner bearing Gujarat registration plates. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle being driven directly onto the sandy stretch before it became hopelessly bogged down in the soft terrain.
High Tide Rescue
The situation grew critical as the morning tide began to rise. Seawater quickly surrounded the vehicle, flooding the interior and threatening to sweep the SUV into the Arabian Sea. The recovery eventually required the intervention of a JCB machine, which was deployed to haul the waterlogged vehicle back to firm ground.
Legal Action and Police Investigation
Anjuna Police have identified the owner as 22-year-old Arjun Singh Rawat. Authorities have officially registered a case under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), citing negligent and unsafe driving that posed a direct threat to public safety. Additional charges under the Motor Vehicles Act and Central Motor Vehicles Rules have also been invoked.
In his defense, Rawat claimed he was not behind the wheel during the incident, alleging the vehicle had been handed over to hotel staff for cleaning. However, police officials clarified that a thorough investigation is underway to determine who was driving at the time, and legal responsibility will be assigned accordingly.

A Growing Concern for Coastal Safety
Local officials noted a worrying trend of tourists ignoring environmental and safety restrictions by driving onto Goa’s beaches.
“These actions create unnecessary risks for beachgoers, local residents, and the drivers themselves,” a police spokesperson stated.
In India, driving on beaches is strictly prohibited to protect the coastline and public safety. The only notable exception is Muzhappilangad Beach in Kerala, which remains the country’s only officially recognized drive-in beach under controlled conditions.
