NEW DELHI: Taking swift action against a high-speed stunt that went viral on social media, the Delhi Police have arrested a 21-year-old youth and impounded a luxury SUV. The vehicle, a black Mahindra Scorpio-N, gained notoriety online not just for its dangerous maneuvers but also for a prominent sticker reading “Dawood” on the rear windshield and heavily tinted windows.

The incident, which occurred on the afternoon of January 18, 2026, was captured by a fellow commuter on the GT Karnal Bypass Road. The footage showed the SUV weaving sharply between vehicles, including motorcycles, near the Narela stretch, causing panic among other road users.

Identification and Arrest: Who is Dawood Ansari?

Following the circulation of the video on X (formerly Twitter) and other platforms, the team at Samaipur Badli Police Station under the Outer North District launched an immediate probe.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North), Hareshwar V. Swamy, confirmed that the driver was identified as Daud Ansari (also referred to as Dawood), a 21-year-old resident of Jabir Nagar, Okhla. Ansari is reportedly a student at IGNOU.

“We received information through a video showing a black Scorpio with the word ‘Dawood’ written on it, being driven in a rash and dangerous manner on GT Road. We immediately constituted a team, identified the vehicle, and took its driver into custody,” DCP Swamy stated.

Investigations revealed that the vehicle is registered under the name of the accused’s father, Musafir Ansari.

Legal Action Under BNS and MV Act

The Delhi Police have adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward such public displays of recklessness. An FIR (No. 63/2026) was registered at the Samaipur Badli Police Station on January 20.

The accused has been booked under the following sections:

  • Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS): Dealing with rash driving or riding on a public way that endangers human life. (This section has replaced the erstwhile Section 279 of the IPC).
  • Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act: Pertaining to dangerous driving.

In addition to the arrest, the police have seized the offending Scorpio-N and confiscated the driver’s license. Authorities are also investigating the violation of tinted glass regulations, which are strictly prohibited under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules.

Chief Minister Reacts to the Viral Stunt

The incident also drew attention from the Delhi administration. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reacted to the police action on social media, confirming the registration of the FIR and the seizure of the vehicle. She emphasized that public safety remains a priority and that such “stunt-driving” will face the full force of the law.

Rising Trend of SUV Stunts in Delhi-NCR

This arrest comes amidst a rising trend of “reel-making” and stunt driving on the highways of Delhi-NCR. Experts suggest that many youths engage in such behavior to gain social media traction, often using vehicles with customized stickers or “VIP” numbers to project a certain persona.

The Delhi Police have issued a stern warning to drivers, stating, “Your fun drive on public roads can cause mishaps leading to loss of precious lives. Drive responsibly and respect traffic rules at all times.”
