By PuneNow News Bureau
PUNE: Residents of Pune can expect a steady shift in weather patterns over the coming week. According to the latest data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city will transition from morning haze to mainly clear skies, accompanied by a gradual rise in both maximum and minimum temperatures.
As of January 8, Pune recorded a high of 28°C and a low of 9°C. For the next 48 hours, the city is likely to remain under a blanket of morning haze. However, from January 11 onwards, the forecast predicts “Mainly Clear” skies, which will likely persist through January 14.
Temperature Trends
The mercury is on a slow upward trajectory. By the middle of next week, afternoon temperatures are expected to touch 32°C, while night temperatures will crawl up from the current 9°C to around 12°C.
| Date | Max Temp (°C) | Min Temp (°C) | Forecast |
| Jan 8 | 28 | 9 | Haze |
| Jan 10 | 30 | 10 | Haze |
| Jan 12 | 31 | 11 | Mainly Clear |
| Jan 14 | 32 | 12 | Mainly Clear |
Expert Insight: The Science Behind the Chill
Former IMD weather forecasting head, Anupam Kashyapi, noted that while parts of North, Central, and East India (including Northeast Vidarbha) are likely to experience cold wave conditions and fog in the next 48 hours, Maharashtra, and specifically Pune, will see little change in night temperatures for the next few days.
Explaining the phenomenon, Kashyapi stated that the presence of an Upper Air Anticyclone is causing Northerly winds to blow via the Bay of Bengal. This brings in Easterly winds that carry moisture into South-Central Maharashtra, resulting in the characteristic morning fog and haze seen recently.
Despite the moisture incursion, no weather warnings have been issued for the Pune region for the upcoming week. Citizens are advised to stay prepared for the minor fluctuations in temperature as the city moves further into the second week of January.
