Wakad Traffic Chaos in Pune: Residents Blame Private School, Seek Immediate Relief
Pune, December 13, 2025: Daily life in Wakad, a fast-growing locality of Pimpri-Chinchwad, was thrown out of gear once again after severe traffic congestion was reported near a well-known private school. Residents say the problem has existed for years, but Friday evening saw the situation spiral completely out of control, triggering widespread anger and fresh demands for action.
The school campus is located near Dutta Mandir Road in Shankar Kalat Nagar, an area where the approach road is narrow and allows only limited vehicular movement at a time. During school opening and closing hours, the stretch regularly gets choked as parents arrive in large numbers to drop and pick up students.
According to local residents, the situation worsened significantly on Friday when students returned from a school outing. Many parents reached the campus simultaneously to pick up young children, leading to vehicles being parked haphazardly on both sides of the road. With it being a Friday evening peak hour, office-goers returning home were also caught in the jam.
Videos showing bumper-to-bumper traffic and stranded commuters quickly surfaced on social media, drawing sharp criticism from residents. Locals claim the congestion lasted for more than an hour and brought movement in the area to a standstill.

Members of the Wakad–Pimpri-Chinchwad Residents Development and Welfare Association formally complained to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate’s traffic department, calling the situation unsafe and unmanageable.
Responding to the complaint, Wakad Traffic Division team visited the school premises on Saturday morning. However, as the school was closed, officials could only interact with staff members and not the management or principal.
“We have received a written complaint from residents. This is not a new issue and has been reported earlier as well. We will be issuing a notice to the school management and will decide further action after consulting senior officers,” a police officer said.
Attempts to contact the school principal for a response were unsuccessful, as the person was unavailable.
Residents are now urging the civic authorities and police to enforce strict traffic management measures and ensure that schools operating in congested areas take responsibility for regulating vehicle movement to prevent repeat incidents.
