Techie Rams Car Into Valet Counter in Kalyani Nagar, Valet Attendant Killed; Driver Arrested

Pune, December 01, 2025: A 30-year-old valet attendant lost his life on Sunday afternoon after an allegedly drunk IT professional rammed his car into the valet counter of Toit restaurant in Kalyani Nagar. The incident took place around 3 pm and left staff and bystanders shocked.

Police said the driver, working as an IT professional, 47, had entered the restaurant earlier and consumed a beer. Staff members noticed that he appeared disturbed and was wandering inside, so they escorted him out and even offered to book a cab for him. Officers said Daingade felt offended and walked out to his car instead.

Witnesses told the police that he first reversed at high speed and then suddenly accelerated forward, crashing into the valet kiosk where attendant Satyendra Mandal, 30, was standing. Mandal suffered serious injuries, including fractures and internal trauma, and died on the spot.

Yerawada police detained the driver soon after the accident. A preliminary medical test indicated alcohol in his system. Senior Inspector Anjum Bagwan said an FIR has been registered, and the accused has been booked for culpable homicide. “He will be produced before the court. Further investigation is underway,” Bagwan said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV) Somay Munde confirmed that a case of culpable homicide has been filed. He added that officers are checking CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts to understand the sequence of events.

Toit Pune issued a statement expressing grief over the loss of their team member. “We are extremely saddened. The authorities are investigating the incident, and we are fully cooperating with the police to ensure justice,” the management said.

Residents and frequent visitors to Kalyani Nagar said the incident highlights the growing concerns around drunk driving in the area, especially near popular restaurants and bars. Police have repeatedly carried out checks, but such cases continue to put lives at risk.
