The timeline was a major point of discussion in a recent high-level review held by PMRDA and other government agencies, where officials shared fresh updates on the project’s progress and the work that remains.

Complete Route to Open at Once

Test runs have already been carried out between Hinjawadi Phase 3 and Balewadi. Many IT employees from Baner, Mhalunge and Balewadi have been urging for a phased opening of Pune Metro Line 3 to ease their daily commute to the Hinjawadi IT Park. Officials clarified that the administration plans to launch the entire stretch together and not in parts.

Dr. Mhase said that all preparatory work is being closely monitored to avoid further delays. As per the joint assessment with different departments, the metro is expected to significantly help reduce accidents and ease persistent traffic congestion in and around the Hinjawadi IT Park.

Stations Nearly Ready, Only Final Touches Pending

According to a report by Free Press Journal, most Metro Line 3 stations are almost complete. Only work on staircases, last-mile connectivity and some finishing touches remain. Officials from Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) expressed confidence and assured that the line will be operational by March 2026.

Road Restoration Ordered Before Handover

The Metro Line 3 concessionaire has been directed by Dr. Mhase to repair and restore all roads beneath the elevated metro line to their original asphalted condition. This must be completed before the roads are handed back to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). The instruction aims to ensure that commuters are not left with damaged roads once construction concludes.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have also set strict accountability norms. They warned that an FIR will be registered against officials responsible for poor road conditions if any fatal incident occurs. This applies to personnel from PMRDA, Metro, MIDC and other agencies. A deadline of December 5 has been set for achieving pothole-free roads.

CM Fadnavis to Attend Review Meeting in December

All key agencies including PMRDA, MIDC, PWD, PCMC, Police, MSEDCL and Pune Zilla Parishad will attend a high-level follow-up meeting next month. PMRDA officials confirmed that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be part of this meeting.

Hinjawadi residents and IT employees recently launched an email campaign to raise concerns directly with the Chief Minister.
