Pune, November 26, 2025: The upgraded service roads on the Mumbai–Pune–Bengaluru Highway, especially between Mamurdi and Wakad, are now close to opening for traffic. This development is expected to ease the daily struggle faced by thousands of commuters travelling towards Hinjawadi.

Rapid Progress on Key Stretches

Work has picked up pace along the Wakad, Punawale, Tathawade, Mamurdi, Ravet and Kiwale sections. Asphalting has already been completed from the Pavana River stretch to the Punawale underpass, and further until the Tathawade underpass. The next phase will take the work up to Bhumkar Chowk.

A parallel project is also under way to build a 12-metre-wide DP road within PMC limits, further improving last-mile connectivity for residents and office-goers.

Daily Travel Expected to Improve

The lack of proper service roads along this busy stretch has caused bottlenecks, unsafe pedestrian movement and chaotic traffic merging for years. With thousands of IT professionals using this route every day, smoother service lanes are expected to reduce travel time and ease congestion during peak hours.

The 9.7 km corridor covering Wakad–Tathawade–Punawale–Ravet–Kiwale is one of the fastest-growing residential belts in the region. Rising housing projects and expanding IT hubs have made efficient road access crucial.

₹321 Crore Allocated for Full Redevelopment

In a major push for infrastructure improvement, ₹321 crore has been approved to build, repair and streamline both sides of the highway. The work includes:
• Constructing new service roads
• Completing pending stretches
• Adding drainage systems and footpaths
• Improving entry and exit points
• Enhancing overall safety features

Officials note that the project has been planned keeping the region’s growth over the next several decades in mind. Once the upgraded roads open, commuters can expect safer movement, better access to residential societies and smoother connectivity to Hinjawadi and surrounding areas.
