Speed Limit Reduced on Katraj Bypass to 30 kmph on the Bhumkar Bridge to Navale Bridge Stretch
Pune, 24 November 2025: The Pune City Traffic Police has issued a fresh order announcing that the speed limit has been reduced on Katraj Bypass to 30 kmph for all vehicles. The new limit applies to the full stretch between Bhumkar Bridge and Navale Bridge and will come into effect from 25 November 2025.
Why the New Speed Limit Was Introduced
The Katraj Bypass has seen frequent accidents because of overspeeding. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Hinmat Jadhav said the decision was taken after a series of serious and recurring crashes on the busy corridor.
Key reasons behind the move include:
• Overspeeding remains the main cause of accidents
• Heavy traffic flow during peak hours
• Increase in fatal and non-fatal mishaps
• Need for smoother and safer movement on this high-risk stretch
The new order has been issued under Sections 115, 116(1)(A)(B), 116(4), and 117 of the Motor Vehicles Act. All earlier speed-related notifications for this route have been cancelled.
Enforcement from November 25
With the speed limit reduced on Katraj Bypass, the Traffic Department will monitor compliance through:
• CCTV cameras installed across the stretch
• Speed-gun checks
• Updated road signage and markings
Jadhav urged motorists to stay alert and keep checking their vehicle’s speedometer. Violations will invite strict action.

Exemptions
Only essential emergency vehicles such as:
• Fire brigade units
• Police vehicles
• Ambulances
are exempt from the 30 kmph limit.
Expected Impact on Road Safety
The department expects the lower speed cap to:
• Reduce the number of serious accidents
• Improve lane discipline
• Ease congestion during busy hours
• Make the corridor safer for daily commuters
Authorities have requested road users to cooperate and avoid speeding to ensure smoother and safer travel on the bypass.
