Pune: Traffic Diversions Announced Ahead of Pune Grand Challenge 2026 Cycling Event
Pune, 22 November 2025: The Pune district administration has issued traffic diversions across parts of rural Pune and the Sinhagad region ahead of the Pune Grand Challenge Long-Distance Cycling Event 2026. The changes aim to support ongoing route preparation, including road asphalting, and to ensure safety during the international-level event. The orders have been issued by District Collector and District Magistrate Jitendra Dudi under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, along with a Home Department notification from 1990.
Diversions across Pune-Baramati belt
The main diversion plan will remain in effect from 20 November to 2 December 2025 between 8 am and 9 pm on key stretches where asphalting work is underway. These roads form part of the competition route.
Traffic will be diverted as follows:
• During work on the Morgaon to Murti Road, vehicles will move through Morgaon, Loni Patti, Loni Bhapkar, Peshwe Vasti (Korahale Budruk), Karanje Bridge and Someshwarnagar.
• When work is happening on the Murti to Choudharwadi Phata route, the diversion will be via Murti, Waki, Karanje and Someshwarnagar.
• On the Choudharwadi Phata to Nira Road stretch, vehicles will be rerouted through Choudharwadi Phata, Karanje and Someshwar.
Officials said these diversions are needed to allow uninterrupted asphalting and route preparation for the cycling event.
Restrictions in Sinhagad Fort area
In a separate order, strict traffic curbs will apply in the Sinhagad area, which draws large footfall from trekkers and tourists. Due to the hilly terrain and absence of alternative parallel routes, the Sinhagad Fort Road will remain fully closed during two phases:
• 19 to 20 November 2025
• 24 to 26 November 2025
Traffic from Panshet, Khanapur, Donje and Atkarwadi towards Khed-Shivapur via the Sinhagad Ghat route will also not be allowed during these periods. Residents needing access to National Highway 48 have been advised to travel through Donje Chowk, Khadakwasla, Kirkatwadi, Nanded City and Vadgaon Dhayari.
Administration appeals for cooperation
Dudi said the measures are essential for safe and efficient event preparation. He added that smooth execution of road work and public adherence to diversions will help ensure safety for participants and commuters.
Authorities have urged citizens to plan travel in advance, follow marked diversion routes and avoid non-essential travel on restricted stretches.
