Bengaluru police are investigating a daring Money Heist in Bengaluru in which a group posing as Central Government tax officers intercepted a CMS cash van and fled with around Rs 7 crore in broad daylight. New CCTV leads now suggest the gang may have carried out a recce two days before the crime and could be the same group involved in earlier ATM robbery cases.

The police have identified one suspect after matching CCTV footage from Jayanagar and Dairy Circle with photos of a previously arrested offender. Teams from Siddhapura Police, South Division units and the Central Crime Branch are now carrying out a citywide search.

CCTV Shows Pre-Heist Recce

CCTV clips from Dairy Circle show the suspects moving around the area before the Money Heist in Bengaluru took place.

Key observations from the footage:

  • The group was seen near a bar close to the flyover two days before the robbery.
  • They arrived on a bike, moved around camera-free spots, and stopped for tea at a roadside stall.
  • Their movements were traced across multiple cameras in South Bengaluru.

Police are using tower location data and vehicle tracking to verify the route taken towards Bannerghatta Road after the cash van was abandoned.

How the Robbery Happened

The CMS vehicle was loaded with Rs 7 crore at the HDFC Bank office in JP Nagar and left the premises at 11.54 am. Within half an hour, the van was stopped near Ashoka Pillar in Jayanagar.

Here is how the Money Heist in Bengaluru unfolded:

  • An Innova blocked the van, and the gang posed as tax officials demanding document checks.
  • The robbers took control of the van and shifted the cash boxes to their car.
  • The CMS staff were forced into the same car and later dropped near the Dairy Circle flyover.
  • The gang drove away with the money, likely along the Bannerghatta Road stretch.

Police are checking whether the grey Innova seen at the scene matches vehicles linked to earlier ATM attacks. Checkpoints across South Bengaluru remain tightened.

Investigation Continues

The Money Heist in Bengaluru has raised concerns over security protocols followed by private cash logistics companies. Police are analysing mobile data, CCTV sequences from JP Nagar to Bannerghatta Road, and older case records to confirm gang involvement.

A search operation is underway to trace the suspects and recover the stolen amount.
