Revised Dog Bite Compensation in Bengaluru: Injured Victims to Get Rs 5,000, Families of Deceased to Receive Rs 5 Lakh
The Karnataka government has issued a revised order for Dog Bite Compensation in Bengaluru, focusing on quicker relief for victims and their families. The updated rules apply across the Greater Bengaluru Region and aim to streamline how the compensation is paid.
Under the new rules, anyone suffering skin punctures, deep bruises with lacerations or multiple bite injuries caused by stray dogs will receive Rs 5,000. The state will also give Rs 5 lakh to the family of a person who dies due to a stray dog attack or rabies caused by such an attack.
How the compensation will be paid
The revised model changes how the Rs 5,000 amount is disbursed. This structure has been designed to ensure that private hospitals provide treatment without delay.
• Rs 3,500 will be paid directly to the victim by the Urban Development Department
• Rs 1,500 will go to the Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust to cover treatment costs
This step is expected to encourage private hospitals to admit patients immediately, as the state will cover initial medical expenses.
Key points of the revised policy
• Applies to injuries from stray dog attacks across areas under Greater Bengaluru Authority
• Compensation ensures immediate medical access at private hospitals
• Revised order replaces an earlier 2023 directive with updated disbursement rules
• Families of deceased victims will receive Rs 5 lakh

Verification committees to handle claims
All municipal corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority will set up a Verification and Compensation Disbursement Committee. These committees will review cases, verify medical proof and ensure timely release of funds. This new mechanism aims to reduce administrative delays and make Dog Bite Compensation in Bengaluru more accessible.
The government believes the revised model will strengthen public healthcare support and enforce accountability while tackling rising stray dog incidents.
