Maharashtra is moving closer to creating a full-scale Maharashtra Expressway Grid, a network that will link major corners of the state through high-speed corridors. The Mumbai–Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, the upcoming Nagpur–Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway and the Mumbai–Goa Konkan Expressway form the backbone of this ambitious plan. Several other connecting expressways will join these main routes and help build a seamless travel grid across Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra Expressway Grid is expected to improve connectivity, reduce travel time between key regions and support economic growth across districts that have remained underserved so far.

Shaktipeeth Expressway Progress

Work on the Nagpur–Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway has gained pace.
• Land acquisition has started at the administrative level.
• Joint land measurement is already 70 percent complete.
• The remaining survey is expected to finish by the end of 2025.

Once ready, this route will connect central Maharashtra with the coastal belt, forming an important part of the Maharashtra Expressway Grid.

Konkan Expressway DPR Ready

The Konkan Expressway, which will connect Mumbai to Goa, is moving closer to execution and completion at the same time through two parallel developments. MSRDC has already finished the revised DPR, and the project is now waiting for the State Government’s final approval. Once cleared, land acquisition will begin immediately.

Alongside this, construction on the larger 498 km Konkan Expressway corridor is already about 95 percent complete. The main stretch covers 376 km along the coastline, with another 120 km of connecting roads. The route passes through Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, covering 232 villages across 17 talukas. The project cost is estimated at around Rs 68,000 crore.

The expressway has been designed as a six-lane, access-controlled greenfield corridor with major engineering features, including:
• 41 tunnels
• 21 major bridges
• 51 viaducts

Once fully operational, the expressway will cut Mumbai–Goa travel time from 12 hours to six hours. Better connectivity is expected to boost tourism, create jobs and support local businesses across the coastal region. This corridor will be a core part of the growing Maharashtra Expressway Grid, making long-distance travel smoother and faster.

A Statewide Infrastructure Push

With the Samruddhi Expressway already open and the Shaktipeeth and Konkan routes advancing steadily, Maharashtra is poised to become the first state with a unified expressway ecosystem. The emerging Maharashtra Expressway Grid will integrate remote areas, strengthen logistics and support new economic activity.
