Vande Bharat Sleeper Trial Run Hits 130 kmph on Ahmedabad–Mumbai Route
The new Vande Bharat Sleeper has moved a step closer to full deployment after completing a successful trial run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The upgraded 16-coach train clocked a peak speed of 130 kmph during the four-hour run on 14 November, marking a major milestone for Indian Railways.
What the Trial Achieved
The trial was led by RDSO, which is now conducting detailed technical checks and COCR tests. Officials said the performance of the Vande Bharat Sleeper was satisfactory. The second sleeper rake, built by BEML, has also reached Mumbai for testing and has previously achieved speeds of up to 180 kmph on the Sawai Madhopur–Kota–Nagda section.

Key Features of the Vande Bharat Sleeper
The sleeper version is designed for long-distance comfort, offering a mix of First AC, AC-2 tier and AC-3 tier coaches. Improvements include better sleeping berths, upgraded toilets, modern charging points and advanced safety systems. Railway engineers describe it as one of the most powerful machines currently on Indian tracks.
