PMC and Police Intensify Drive to Clear Abandoned Vehicles in Pune
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), along with the Pune Police, has intensified its citywide campaign to remove abandoned and unused vehicles parked on roadsides. The initiative aims to tackle growing congestion, improve traffic flow, and reclaim valuable public space.
Officials estimate that thousands of vehicles have been left unattended across Pune, blocking parking spots and causing inconvenience to pedestrians and commuters. Under the new drive, notices are being issued to vehicle owners, giving them a limited window to claim their vehicles before towing operations begin.
Citizens can also report abandoned vehicles through the Pune Traffic Police app. Once reported, teams verify the condition and location of the vehicle before removing it from the site. These vehicles are later shifted to designated storage yards and may be auctioned or scrapped as per civic guidelines.
Residents across areas like Kothrud, Shivajinagar, and Camp have welcomed this long-pending initiative, noting that it could help decongest key lanes and improve emergency vehicle movement. Officials say that the campaign will first target high-traffic zones before expanding to residential neighbourhoods.
The joint PMC-Police effort marks a strong step toward a cleaner and safer city. With better enforcement and public cooperation, Pune could see visibly freer roads and more organised parking in the coming months.
