The winter chill has started to make its presence felt in Pune and nearby regions, with minimum temperatures dropping steadily over the past few days. Data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune, shows a decline of 1–2°C in several areas, and forecasters expect a further dip of about 2–3°C in the coming days, marking the gradual arrival of winter.

The city has begun to witness light fog in the early hours and late evenings, a typical sign of the changing season. According to IMD records, minimum temperatures hovered between 18°C and 20°C on November 6. Pashan was the coolest at 16.5°C, while Shivajinagar registered 17°C on November 7. The mercury slid even lower on November 8, with Shivajinagar touching 15°C, the lowest so far this season.

Earlier this month, unseasonal rainfall had led to fluctuating weather conditions and raised doubts about an early onset of winter. The showers, which began around November 1, ended about three days ago. Since then, the skies have cleared up, and the temperature has begun to drop gradually.

“Clear skies and dry air will cause minimum temperatures to fall further by 2–3°C in the next couple of days. The overall weather will remain dry across Pune district,” said S. D. Sanap, senior meteorologist at IMD Pune.

Residents in the suburbs reported misty mornings on Thursday, a sign of the first winter chill. While the nights are turning cooler, daytime temperatures are likely to remain stable. On November 8, Shivajinagar recorded a maximum of 31.9°C, typical for this time of the year.

Weather experts expect dry conditions and clear skies to prevail through the weekend, bringing pleasant mornings and evenings to Pune. By around November 13, the minimum temperature in the city could drop to nearly 10°C, they added. Meanwhile, Jalgaon continued to be the coldest in the region with a minimum temperature of 10.8°C on November 8.
