Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Hits 180 kmph During Trial Run in Kota Division
Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Update: Second Rake Achieves Record Speed
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train has achieved another milestone as its second rake touched a speed of 180 kmph during a high-speed trial run in the Kota Division. Developed by BEML using ICF technology, this new semi-high-speed sleeper train is designed to operate on long-distance routes with enhanced comfort and stability.
The trial is being conducted by the Test Directorate team of the Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO) under the West Central Railway (WCR) zone. The latest Vande Bharat Sleeper train is equipped with advanced coach designs that offer greater stability and smoother rides even at high speeds.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Trial Run Details
The high-speed trial of the second rake began on November 2 and will continue till November 17. The 16-coach Vande Bharat Sleeper train is currently undergoing trials on the Sawai Madhopur–Kota–Nagda section. Earlier, it had been tested on the Mahoba–Khajuraho route.
During these tests, RDSO engineers are evaluating the train’s mechanical and electrical systems, including braking capability, vibration levels, and overall stability at top speeds.

Testing Real Passenger Load Conditions
To simulate real operational conditions, the Vande Bharat Sleeper train’s second rake was tested with a full passenger load. It carried 108 tons of additional weight – canisters filled with 50 kg of iron dust each – on top of its base 800-ton rake weight, bringing the total load to 908 tons. This ensures that performance data reflects actual running conditions once the train is deployed for service.
How the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Reached 180 kmph
According to railway officials, the Long Confirmatory Run (LCR) was successfully conducted over a 50 km stretch between Rohalkhurd and Laban stations, where the train clocked 180 kmph. The trial also included oscillation tests and wet track emergency braking tests to verify the train’s safety and performance under varied conditions.
The successful completion of these trials marks a key step in India’s move towards faster and more comfortable long-distance travel. The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is expected to play a major role in transforming overnight rail journeys across the country.
