Hinjawadi Residents and IT Employees Protest After Fatal Accidents, Demand Safer Roads

Residents and IT professionals from Hinjawadi, Maan, and Marunji took to the streets on Saturday, demanding urgent road safety measures and better infrastructure. The protest followed the tragic death of Bharati Mishra, a 34-year-old woman from Thergaon, who lost her life in a collision with a mixer truck in Pandav Nagar on Friday.
Growing Anger Over Repeated Road Accidents
More than 200 residents, including families and senior citizens, gathered near the Streets of Europe Mall in Hinjawadi Phase 1 to voice their frustrations. Protesters expressed anger over inadequate enforcement of traffic rules and the deteriorating condition of the roads.
Sachin Londhe, representing the Unclog Hinjawadi IT Park petition, stated, “We are protesting in solidarity with the woman who lost her life yesterday. Our demand is clear – PMRDA, MIDC, and the Maharashtra Chief Minister must ensure better infrastructure and strict enforcement of traffic regulations.”
Calls for Accountability
Protesters alleged that the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and other authorities have failed to act despite several appeals. They highlighted that even after visits from Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and MP Supriya Sule, there has been no visible improvement in road safety.
Families of past victims also participated in the demonstration. Vaishali Borate, whose 11-year-old daughter Pratyusha died in a similar accident in August, accused the police of negligence. “Trucks continue to ply during banned hours despite police assurances. Enforcement and accountability are missing,” she told the media.
