Pune/Hinjawadi, October 10, 2025: A tragic road accident in Hinjawadi has once again raised serious questions about road safety and enforcement. A young woman lost her life after a cement mixer truck hit her two-wheeler near Pandav Nagar Chowk on the Hinjawadi–Maan Road around 11 a.m. on Thursday.

According to police, the mixer truck was operating during restricted hours for heavy vehicles, violating the ban that prohibits such traffic between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m., and again from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle, which has since been seized. Police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and are searching for the accused driver.

Poor Road Conditions Blamed

Eyewitnesses said the woman tried to swerve to avoid a pothole or uneven patch when she lost control and came under the truck. The accident occurred near the “Street of Europe” stretch, a section notorious for poor maintenance and frequent mishaps. Residents have long complained about the crumbling condition of Maan Road, which has become one of Pune’s accident-prone zones.

Citizens Demand Action

Locals and commuters expressed anger over the incident, saying repeated complaints about poor roads and lack of enforcement have gone unheard. They urged authorities to repair the stretch immediately and strengthen checks on heavy vehicles operating during restricted hours.

Community members also called for advanced monitoring measures, including sensors, cameras, and anti-collision systems on construction vehicles, to prevent similar tragedies. The accident has reignited calls for stricter road safety measures across Pune’s fast-developing Hinjawadi industrial corridor.
