Pune: Purandar Airport Project Moves Swiftly, Land Acquisition Done, Survey Underway, Construction Begins in 2026
The Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Purandar International Airport project in Pune has taken a historic leap forward with 100% of the required private land now acquired. On Thursday, the last day for accepting consent letters, revenue officials confirmed that around 3,220 landowners had submitted consent for a total of 2,800 acres.
The acquisition target was recently revised to 3,000 acres, including 200 acres of government land. This means the entire private land component has been secured in record time. Remarkably, consent letters for 2,800 acres were gathered within just a month, between August 25 and September 25, 2025.
With the land now in hand, joint measurement has begun in villages like Ekhatpur, Munjavadi, and Udachiwadi. Officials started the survey on Friday morning at farmer Tilekar’s land in Ekhatpur, with work scheduled to continue across the remaining parcels. The survey is expected to conclude by October 20, 2025.
For farmers who provided timely consent, the government has announced four times the market value as monetary compensation. In addition, those who gave self-consent will receive 10% of the compensation value as developed plots in the upcoming Aerocity. These plots will be allotted on a first-come-first-serve basis from land specially reserved for this purpose.

The Government of Maharashtra aims to complete land acquisition formalities by the end of 2025 and begin construction by mid-2026 after the tender process. Once operational, the Purandar airport will not only cater to Pune but also serve the entire western and central Maharashtra region. With two parallel runways of 4,000×60 metres and a planned passenger handling capacity of 75 million annually, the airport is set to transform regional air connectivity.
This is being seen as one of the fastest and smoothest land acquisition drives for a large international airport in India, marking a historic milestone for the state’s aviation growth.
