Maharashtra Clears New IT Park Near Purandar Airport to Decongest Hinjawadi

The Maharashtra government is moving forward with a major new project to secure Pune’s future as a tech powerhouse. To tackle the growing congestion at the city’s main Hinjewadi IT park, the state is officially starting the process to build a brand new IT hub in Purandar.
This isn’t just a small expansion. The plan is for a massive 1,500-acre park strategically located near the site of the proposed Pune International Airport and an upcoming logistics center. This prime location is a key part of the strategy, offering companies excellent connectivity and room to grow.
The push for this new park has been led by local leaders. The state’s Industry Minister, Uday Samant, has now given the green light, instructing officials to begin acquiring the land. The good news is that the identified plots in the villages of Dive, Chambali, and Kodit are already government-owned, which should make the acquisition process much smoother and faster.
So, why is this new park so necessary? For years, Hinjewadi has been the heart of Pune’s IT industry, but its success has led to major growing pains. Companies there have been struggling with terrible traffic, infrastructure that hasn’t kept up, and a general sense that the area is simply maxed out. Recently, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar even warned that some companies were so frustrated with the delays in road-widening and other improvements that they were considering leaving Maharashtra altogether.
The new Purandar IT park is the state’s direct answer to that problem. By creating a modern, well-planned hub from the ground up, the government hopes to not only stop companies from leaving but also attract new investment, ensuring Pune remains one of India’s top destinations for technology firms.
