Entry of Two Wheelers Banned on Hinjawadi-Wakad Flyover During Rush Hours
If you’re a two-wheeler rider who uses the busy Hinjawadi-Wakad flyover, your commute just changed. In a surprise move to tackle major traffic jams, the local traffic police have temporarily banned motorcycles and scooters from the flyover during rush hours.
The new rule started on the morning of September 11th and is set to be a test run for the next two weeks. The goal is simple: to free up space on the narrow flyover. By restricting it to cars and other four-wheelers, officials hope traffic will flow faster for everyone.
The key detail is the timing. The ban is only in effect on weekdays during peak hours:
- Morning:Â 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM
- Evening:Â 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Outside of these windows, two-wheeler riders are free to use the flyover as usual.
Authorities explained the reasoning, noting that the flyover’s design, being narrow and without dividers, often leads to bottlenecks when vehicles mix. This move is an experiment to see if dedicating the space to larger vehicles improves the overall situation.
🚨 Traffic Update! Two-wheelers are now banned on the Hinjawadi-Wakad flyover during peak hours (8-11 AM & 5-9 PM). The 2-week trial aims to ease congestion.

So, what should riders do instead? The police have suggested simple detours that add just a minute or two to the journey:
- From Wakad to Hinjawadi:Â Take a left towards the Surya underpass and then a U-turn.
- From Hinjawadi to Wakad:Â Take a left towards the Sayaji underpass and then a U-turn.
The traffic department has acknowledged that the announcement caught many people off guard, as it was shared via loudspeakers rather than an official circular. They are encouraging commuters to share their feedback or report any issues directly with the Hinjawadi Traffic Division office at Bhujbal Chowk.
