The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is developing a new mobile app, tentatively called e-Aadhaar, that will allow users to update key personal details such as name, date of birth, and residential address directly from their smartphones. This app aims to make the process faster, simpler, and more convenient, reducing the need for in-person visits to Aadhaar centres.

The e-Aadhaar app is expected to be launched by the end of 2025. Users will still need to visit enrolment centres for biometric authentication, including fingerprint and iris scans. Beyond that, the app will handle updates digitally, integrating AI and Face ID technology for secure and seamless service.

UIDAI plans to further simplify the process by automatically fetching verified data from government sources. This could include birth certificates, PAN cards, passports, driving licences, ration cards under the Public Distribution System, MNREGA records, and even electricity bills to make address verification smoother.

The app comes alongside the Aadhaar Good Governance Portal launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The portal aims to streamline Aadhaar authentication requests, making approvals quicker and services more accessible for all users.

This move reflects a broader push to modernize Aadhaar services, reduce paperwork, and make digital identity management more efficient for millions of users across India.
