Pavitra Rishta Actress Priya Marathe Passes Away at 38 After Battle With Cancer
Actor Priya Marathe, best known for her role in the television show Pavitra Rishta, passed away in Mumbai on August 31, 2025, after a year-long battle with cancer. She was 38.
Born on April 23, 1987, in Mumbai, Priya was a familiar face in both Hindi and Marathi television. She started her career with Marathi serials like Ya Sukhano Ya and Char Divas Sasuche before moving into Hindi television. She appeared as Vidya Bali in Kasamh Se and later gained popularity as Jyoti Malhotra in Bade Acche Lagte Hain.
Her most memorable role came with Pavitra Rishta, where she played Varsha Satish, making her a household name across India. Apart from dramas, she also showcased her comic timing on the first season of Comedy Circus.
Priya’s acting career spanned television, films, and even stand-up comedy. She acted in the Hindi film Humne Jeena Seekh Liya (2008) and the Marathi film Ti Ani Itar, directed by Govind Nihalani, alongside Subodh Bhave and Sonali Kulkarni.
In 2012, she married actor Shantanu Moghe. The couple often shared glimpses of their life on social media, but Priya gradually withdrew from the public eye in 2023 after stepping away from her Marathi show Tuzech Mi Geet Gaat Aahe due to health concerns. Her last Instagram post, shared in 2024, showed her visiting Amer Fort in Jaipur with her husband.
According to reports, Priya had been receiving treatment for cancer for the past year, but her condition worsened despite medical care. She breathed her last at her home in Mira Road, Mumbai.
