Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Trials Conducted Upto Balewadi Stadium on Ganesh Chaturthi
Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar, (Pune Metro Line 3) marked an important milestone on Wednesday as it conducted its first trial run beyond Hinjawadi, reaching up to the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex station at Balewadi. The timing was symbolic too, with the achievement coinciding with the festive occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Until now, all three earlier trial runs were confined to the Maan-Hinjawadi stretch. This latest run, carried out between Maan Depot and Station No. 10 at Balewadi Stadium, marked the first time the metro ventured outside the IT hub. Engineers, technicians, and officials were present on-site to oversee the operations, track performance, and signaling systems.
The 23-kilometre Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro line is one of Pune’s most awaited projects. Once operational, it will link Hinjawadi’s IT parks with the city’s central business district and connect key residential, business, and educational hubs along the way. The route is expected to bring relief to thousands of daily commuters, especially IT professionals who face heavy traffic on a regular basis.
Developed under a Public-Private Partnership by Tata Group’s TRIL Urban Transport and Siemens Project Ventures, the line is being executed through Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited on a 35-year concession period. The project follows a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer model.
Officials have indicated that more trial runs will follow in phases before full-fledged operations begin. For Pune, this successful trial run is not just another technical achievement but also a hopeful sign of smoother, faster, and greener urban travel ahead.
