Mumbai, July 23: Two passengers sustained injuries after debris from a sudden landslide struck a coach of a suburban train arriving at Kasara station in Thane district on Tuesday night, a Central Railway (CR) official confirmed.

Incident Details

The incident occurred around 9:15 PM when the local train was entering Platform No. 4 at Kasara station, located approximately 120 km from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). According to Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, the landslide debris entered one of the coaches, causing minor injuries to two passengers.

The station’s duty staff promptly administered first aid to the injured individuals. Engineering teams conducted an immediate inspection of the tracks and declared them safe for operations by 9:35 PM.

Central Railway’s Official Statement

In an official statement, Central Railway reported:
“Today at about 20:46 hrs, while Train No. N27 was passing between Umbermali and Kasara, a sudden landslide occurred along the track, causing minor injuries to two passengers. They were immediately given medical attention and promptly shifted to a hospital for further treatment.”

Heavy Rainfall and Safety Measures

The incident took place amid heavy rainfall in the region, raising concerns over monsoon-related disruptions. Railway officials have intensified monitoring of vulnerable stretches as part of their monsoon preparedness plan to prevent similar incidents.

Authorities have urged passengers to remain cautious, especially during extreme weather conditions, and assured that safety protocols are being strictly enforced.
