Pune’s New Tourist App Aims to Provide Information About all the 138 Tourism Sites in the District and Boost Tourist Safety

In a major push to enhance tourist safety and streamline travel experiences, the Pune district administration has announced the development of a dedicated mobile app featuring detailed information on 138 tourist spots across the region. The move comes after recent tragedies, including the Kundamala bridge collapse in Maval taluka, which claimed four lives, prompting authorities to take proactive measures.
One-Stop Tourist Guide: What the App Will Offer
District Collector Jitendra Dudi revealed that the upcoming app will serve as a comprehensive digital guide, providing essential details such as:
- Location & transport options
- Entry fees & time slots
- Available amenities (food, accommodation, emergency services)
- Safety guidelines & adventure activity updates
“Tourists often face misinformation about routes, fees, and facilities. This app will ensure transparency and reduce fraud risks,” Dudi stated.
Tourism Bans Hit Local Economy, Stakeholders Demand Change
While the administration works on improving safety, tourism businesses are feeling the pinch. Recent government bans on trekking and adventure sites—intended to prevent accidents—have severely impacted local livelihoods.
At a press conference, trek organizers, hoteliers, and transport providers urged officials to reconsider restrictions, proposing alternative solutions:
- Mandatory online registration
- Limited trekking slots
- Approvals only for registered operators
- Local guide requirements & emergency protocols
- Strict waste management rules
“Safety is crucial, but blanket bans have paralyzed our businesses,” said a veteran trek organizer.
Pune’s Tourism Development Plan: Key Features
The district’s comprehensive tourism strategy includes:
✅ Digitizing all 138 tourist sites
✅ Structured transport & route data
✅ Visitor caps & timed entry slots
✅ Entry fees for better maintenance
✅ Mandatory safety protocols for adventure tourism
“Our goal is to reduce overcrowding, improve visitor experiences, and support local communities,” added Dudi.
The app is expected to launch in the coming months, offering both domestic and international tourists an easy way to explore Pune’s forts, dams, caves, and heritage sites.
