Pune News, July 08, 2025: In a major step toward resolving Pune’s chronic traffic congestion, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has set an August 2025 deadline to complete crucial land acquisitions for long-pending missing link road projects. The development came following a high-level review meeting held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, chaired by Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and attended by Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi.

The meeting saw the presentation of 42 land acquisition proposals from various departments of the PMC. Significantly, 34 of these pertained to the Roads Department, underlining the administration’s urgency to upgrade city infrastructure. The remaining eight proposals were linked to other departments such as PMPML and MSRTC.

To prioritize heavily trafficked routes, authorities have directed the land acquisition process to be completed in three targeted phases by August. Roads connecting Katraj-Kondhwa, Satara-Mumbai, and Pune-Hadapsar-Solapur have been identified as top priorities. These corridors are notorious for bottlenecks and are vital to improving the city’s overall traffic flow.

A major focus of the plan is on resolving long-standing issues around the city’s ‘Missing Link’ roads, which can significantly reduce travel times and congestion. To expedite this, joint surveys for land acquisition will be conducted in mission mode from July 15 to July 25, by the Land Records Department. One such urgent case involves the approach road for the bridge under construction from Suncity towards Karvenagar Road, where immediate land acquisition notifications have been ordered.

To ensure seamless coordination and quick action, a Task Force comprising officials from the Revenue Department, PMC, and Town Planning Department will be formed. This team will hold weekly meetings and coordinate on all fronts to avoid procedural delays.

The plan also extends beyond traffic-focused projects. Land acquisition for Mahatma Phule Wada, the Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Memorial, and other integration and urban expansion initiatives will also be undertaken on a fast-track basis.

To monitor and maintain momentum, monthly review meetings will be organized, and the Municipal Commissioner has assured that sufficient funding will be secured through PMC planning and support from government grants.

This marks the first time that such a comprehensive and integrated approach has been taken to address traffic decongestion in Pune.

The meeting was attended by several senior PMC and Revenue officials, including Additional Commissioner (Special) Omprakash Divate, Chief Engineer (Roads) Aniruddha Pawaskar, Deputy Commissioner (Land Acquisition & Property Management) Shakuntala Barve, and key figures from the Land Records Department like the Superintendent of Land Records, Deputy SLR, and Special Land Acquisition Officers 15 and 16.

As Pune continues to grow, this concerted push to finalize land acquisitions for critical infrastructure projects could signal a turning point in the city’s urban mobility landscape.
