Widespread Outage Due to Cable Fault

The outage occurred after a fault developed in a 220 kV underground high-voltage cable near the Infosys-Pegasus substation around 2:10 PM. Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL) officials stated that repairing the damaged cable could take up to three days.

Over 12,000 low-tension (LT) domestic consumers and 91 high-tension (HT) industrial users, including major companies like Infosys and Nextra, were affected. The impacted zones include MIDC, Hinjewadi IT Park, Raisoni Park, Dohler Company, and Wipro Circle.

Industrial Supply Delayed, Residential Power Partially Restored

The Forum for IT Employees (FITE) shared that industrial power supply will not be restored until Wednesday, as communicated to nearly 100 industry users. Companies must now decide whether to operate on backup power or allow work-from-home (WFH) arrangements.

For residential areas, partial restoration has begun in Phase 2 and Phase 3 of Hinjewadi, with remaining zones expected to regain supply soon. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) is diverting 63 MW of power through alternate routes to minimize disruptions.

Officials Working Round the Clock

MSEDCL assured that teams are working non-stop to restore power. “We aim to bring back residential supply by late Sunday night, but HT consumers will face a longer delay,” he said.

The fault occurred shortly after scheduled maintenance between 11 AM and 1 PM, which initially concluded without issues. However, the cable malfunctioned shortly after, leading to the prolonged outage.

Residents Voice Frustration

With no electricity for hours, residents expressed frustration over the lack of updates. Many reported disruptions to work-from-home schedules and daily routines. Some, however, noted that since Sunday was a holiday, the impact was slightly mitigated.

Key Takeaways:

  • Industrial power (HT) may remain cut until Wednesday.
  • Residential supply is being restored in phases.
  • MSEDCL is diverting power via alternate lines to ease the crisis.
  • Major IT firms like Infosys and Nextra affected.

Authorities urge patience as repair teams work to resolve the issue at the earliest.
