Maharashtra Government Extends Deadline for High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) to August 15, 2025, Strict Penalties Afterwards

The Maharashtra state government has made it mandatory for vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, to affix High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP). While the initial deadline for compliance was set for June 30, 2025, the Transport Department has now granted a final extension until August 15, 2025. This announcement was made through an official press release by Joint Transport Commissioner (Computer) Shailesh Kamat.
Mandatory HSRP Compliance for Vehicle Owners
Vehicle owners must book an appointment on the Maharashtra Transport Department’s official website (http://transport.maharashtra.gov.in) to get their HSRP plates installed. The department has warned that strict action will be taken against vehicles found without these plates during inspections after the deadline.

Why HSRP Plates?
HSRP plates are designed to enhance vehicle security and reduce theft. These tamper-proof plates come with a laser-branded permanent identification number (PIN) and a hot-stamped chromium-based hologram, making duplication nearly impossible.
Act Now to Avoid Penalties
With the August 15, 2025 deadline approaching, vehicle owners are urged to schedule their HSRP installation at the earliest. Failure to comply will result in fines and legal consequences.
