Pune: Self-Styled Godman Arrested for Spying, Coercion, and Fraud in Bavdhan
Pune News, June 29, 2025: The Bavdhan police have arrested a 29-year-old self-proclaimed godman, Prasad Dada alias Baba alias Prasad Bhimrao Tamdar, from Sus Gaon, for allegedly spying on, coercing, and defrauding a real estate developer. The arrest followed a complaint filed by the victim, who accused Tamdar of mental harassment, surveillance, and extortion.
Exploitation Under the Guise of Spiritual Healing
According to the police, Tamdar claimed to possess “divine powers” and convinced the complainant that he could remove obstacles in his life through a “spiritual awakening.” Exploiting this trust, Tamdar secretly installed a hidden app called AirDroid Kid on the victim’s phone, gaining unauthorized access to his personal data.
Psychological Manipulation and Sexual Coercion
The FIR reveals that Tamdar used the surveillance data to exert psychological control over the victim. Shockingly, he allegedly forced the complainant into performing obscene acts and pressured him to visit sex workers under the pretext of performing “spiritual remedies.” The incidents reportedly occurred between November 2024 and June 26, 2025.
Extortion and Privacy Violation
Beyond monitoring the victim’s mobile activity, Tamdar also allegedly spied on others, issuing immoral instructions and watching their behaviour in real time through the app. He extorted ₹15,000 from the complainant, falsely claiming it was a donation for his spiritual monastery.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
After realizing the extent of manipulation and privacy violation, the victim approached the Bavdhan Police Station. Tamdar has been booked under multiple sections, including:
- Cheating
- Mental harassment
- Criminal intimidation
- Sexual exploitation
- Violations under the IT Act, 2000
The Pimpri-Chinchwad police suspect Tamdar may have targeted others using similar tactics. Investigations are ongoing to uncover further victims.
PTI Reports Additional Charges
As per PTI, Tamdar was also accused of voyeurism and practising black magic in Pimpri Chinchwad. He allegedly ran an ashram in Bavdhan, offering astrological solutions while secretly coercing followers into inappropriate acts.
The case highlights the dangers of fraudulent spiritual leaders exploiting vulnerable individuals. Authorities urge anyone with similar complaints to come forward.
