Pune: Olympic-Grade Climbing Wall Opens to Public at Yoga Park, Pimple Saudagar; A Launchpad for Aspiring Athletes
Pune News, June 27, 2025: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has taken a giant leap in promoting holistic development and sporting excellence with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art, international-standard Olympic-grade climbing wall at Yoga Park, Pimple Saudagar.
Inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on June 18, this world-class facility is set to become a landmark for sport climbing in India. More than just a wall, it serves as a launchpad for students, amateurs, and professionals to train, compete, and excel at the international level.
A Facility of Global Standards
The climbing wall and its accompanying coaching academy are accredited by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), which is affiliated with the UIAA (International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation) and the IFSC (International Federation of Sport Climbing). With sport climbing now recognized as an official Olympic sport by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), this facility ensures that Pune’s youth have access to infrastructure that matches global standards.
Inclusive Access for All
Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh emphasized PCMC’s commitment to equity in access, stating that the facility will also benefit students from PCMC schools and underserved communities, ensuring that talent from all backgrounds gets a fair opportunity to rise.
Monsoon Delay, But Excitement Builds
While the wall and academy will open to the public after the monsoon season, its strategic location in the rapidly developing Pimple Saudagar-Wakad-Pimple Nilakh belt ensures easy accessibility for residents across the city. Singh extended an open invitation to citizens to explore, train, and support the growing sports culture in Pimpri Chinchwad.
