Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar inaugurated the pilot project, emphasizing its role in reducing congestion and improving road discipline. Early results show a noticeable decline in wrong-side driving and illegal parking, two major pain points on the busy FC Road stretch.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amol Zende confirmed the system’s success, stating, “The AI cameras work 24/7, identifying violations instantly and issuing fines automatically. We’re already seeing behavioral changes among drivers.”

Buoyed by the positive response, the traffic department plans to expand AI surveillance to other high-traffic zones, including JM Road and Lohegaon Airport. Meanwhile, the controversial towing van services remain suspended pending upgrades—officials say they will soon be fitted with CCTV monitoring and trained personnel for greater transparency.

detailed report on fine collections from the AI system is expected within the next 10 days, offering insights into the financial impact of automated enforcement.
