Pune News, 14th June 2025: In a significant move to enhance traffic management and citizen participation, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar launched the ‘PTP TrafficCop’ mobile app at the Vidhan Bhavan, Pune, today. Developed by Pune City Police, the app aims to streamline traffic enforcement by allowing citizens to report violations and road hazards in real-time. The event was attended by Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, marking a collaborative effort to improve road safety and reduce congestion in the city.

Citizen-Driven Traffic Enforcement

The app introduces a community-based reporting system, enabling vigilant citizens to upload photos of traffic violations such as:

  • Illegal parking (on footpaths or no-parking zones)
  • Triple-seat riding on two-wheelers
  • Use of mobile phones while driving
  • Unauthorized heavy vehicles in restricted zones
  • Wrong-side driving or entry in no-entry zones

Additionally, users can report road hazards like potholes, accidents, waterlogging, and abandoned vehicles, ensuring faster resolution by authorities.

Eligibility & Transparency

Only citizens without pending traffic fines (challans) can report violations, ensuring that rule-abiding individuals contribute to enforcement. Each report will be verified within 48 hours, and digital challans will be issued upon confirmation. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar emphasized:

“This initiative promotes transparency and shared responsibility. Citizens act as our eyes and ears, helping us enforce laws effectively while protecting their privacy.”

Seamless Coordination with Authorities

The app facilitates real-time coordination between traffic police and municipal bodies, ensuring quick action on complaints. Additional Commissioner Manoj Patil stated:

“We want Pune’s citizens to be active contributors, not just bystanders. Every verified report will lead to swift action.”

Availability & Future Plans

Currently available on the App Store, the app will soon launch on the Play Store. Pune Police assures complete data privacy, with no misuse of personal information.

This initiative comes amid rising traffic fatalities (over 100 annually) and increasing congestion, positioning Pune as a pioneer in citizen-inclusive traffic management.
