Heavy Rain Batters City, Shivajinagar Records Highest 63.5 mm in 24 Hours

Pune, 14th June 2025 – Pune experienced intense monsoon showers over the past 24 hours, with Shivajinagar recording the highest rainfall at 63.5 mm, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The heavy downpour led to waterlogging and traffic disruptions across the city, marking a robust monsoon onset.
Key Areas Affected by Heavy Rainfall
- Shivajinagar: 63.5 mm
- Chinchwad: 58 mm
- Lohgaon: 54.2 mm
- Lavale: 51.5 mm
- Magarpatta: 43.5 mm
- Talegaon: 42.5 mm
- Lonavala & Rajgurunagar: 39.5 mm each
- Hadapsar: 38.5 mm
Other regions, including Girivan (33.5 mm), Dudulgaon (33 mm), Daund (32 mm), and Haveli (29.5 mm), also received moderate to heavy showers. Rural areas like Narayangaon (20 mm), Bhor (15.5 mm), and Nimgiri (5 mm) saw lighter but consistent rainfall.
Traffic Chaos & Waterlogging
Friday evening’s downpour caused severe disruptions, with Shivajinagar receiving 55 mm in just three hours. Key roads, including Ivy Estate Road (Wagholi), Undri, and Hadapsar-Kharadi Bypass, were submerged, leading to massive traffic jams. Commuters reported tripled travel times, with some stranded for hours.

Behind the Heavy Rainfall
IMD officials attributed the intense weather to three systems:
- AÂ trough from the Arabian Sea to Odisha
- AÂ trough from Rajasthan to Marathwada
- AÂ cyclonic circulation over north Karnataka
Emergency Response
The Pune Fire Brigade addressed 34 tree-fall incidents in areas like Baner, Sinhagad Road, Kalyaninagar, and Kothrud.
The IMD predicts continued cloudy skies and light to moderate rain in Pune over the next few days.
