Pune: Traffic Restrictions Lifted at Katraj Chowk After Six Months, Normal Movement Resumes

Pune, June 09, 2025: After nearly six months of disruptions, regular traffic flow has been restored at Katraj Chowk following the completion of major construction work on the flyover project. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had imposed traffic restrictions on November 29, 2024, for segmental launching work, forcing commuters to take daily detours of 2–3 km, impacting thousands.
Representatives of the Pune Traffic Branch confirmed, “The segmental launching work is now complete. Traffic was restored to its original pattern from midnight on Friday.”
The prolonged diversion had drawn strong opposition from residents and civic groups, who demanded relief. A resident of the area and an activist shared, “For months, locals suffered due to circular traffic. With normalcy restored, we’ve heaved a sigh of relief.”
While NHAI completed girder work in February, delays in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)’s cement-concrete road work near the flyover prolonged the restrictions. After intervention by traffic police, PMC expedited the remaining tasks, allowing full reopening.
