Pune’s CWPRS Opens Doors to Public for 109th Foundation Day Exhibition on June 14

Pune, June 08, 2024: The Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) is celebrating its 109th Foundation Day on June 14 with a public exhibition, offering citizens a rare glimpse into its pioneering work in water and power research. The event, open to all, will showcase the institute’s contributions to major national and international projects, including the Vadhvan Port, Navi Mumbai Airport, and Kalpasar coastal reservoir.
A Day of Innovation and Awareness
From 10 AM to 4 PM, visitors can explore research models, documentaries, and interactive sessions at CWPRS’s Pune facility. The day kicks off with a keynote lecture on “Water Governance” by Chief Engineer DS Chaskar (National Water Academy), followed by cultural programs, quizzes, and tree plantation activities.
Dr. Prabhat Chandra, CWPRS Director, highlighted the institute’s focus on AI, Machine Learning, and climate change resilience, including studies on salinity ingression and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs). A new Centre of Excellence for Dam Safety is also in the works.
Engaging the Next Generation
Students from Pune’s schools and colleges are specially invited to learn about CWPRS’s role in projects like:
- Polavaram Dam
- Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project (Bhutan)
- Yamuna River studies
- Wave Flume (RSWG) research
Documentaries on these initiatives will screen in the CWPRS auditorium (11 AM–4 PM).
