Pune, June 8, 2025 – The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has commenced work on an internal road for Maharashtra’s longest glass skywalk in Lonavala, marking the first phase of a ₹909.04 crore mega tourism project. This ambitious initiative aims to connect Lion Point and Tiger Point, positioning Lonavala as a global tourist hotspot.

World-Class Engineering & Stunning Views

Inspired by Arizona’s Grand Canyon Skywalk, the Lonavala Glass Skywalk will be a 125-metre-long, 6-metre-wide architectural marvel, suspended high above the Sahyadri hills. The project will also feature a 90-metre-long suspension bridge, offering breathtaking panoramic views to attract visitors worldwide.

Global Expertise & Infrastructure Development

PMRDA officials stated that tenders for the internal road will be floated soon, with eight already under evaluation. “This initial road construction will accelerate the overall project,” an official stated, adding that international bidders will be invited to bring cutting-edge innovation.

The project, set for completion by June 2027, is being executed through government funding (₹213.12 crore) and PPP (₹695.92 crore). Major upgrades include:

  • Widening the 11-km A1 Chikki–skywalk road to 45 metres
  • Building a new elevated freeway connecting Mulshi and Lonavala

Kurwande Village: The Scenic Hub

The project’s centerpiece is Kurwande village, a picturesque location already popular among tourists from Pune and Mumbai. Its natural beauty enhances its potential as a premier tourist destination.

Land Acquisition & Eco Compliance

PMRDA has secured 20.90 hectares of forest land, transferring ₹5.25 crore as Net Present Value (NPV). Additionally, 3,378 sqm of private land acquisition is nearing completion, with alternative sites identified to comply with environmental norms.

Luxury Amenities & Adventure Zones

The skywalk will feature:

  • 5,000-sqm rooftop café
  • 1,000-seat amphitheatre
  • Adventure sports zones
  • Parking for 1,600 cars and 2,000 two-wheelers

Deputy CM Ajit Pawar is overseeing the project, ensuring adherence to global quality standards and timelines.

A Tourism & Economic Game-Changer

“This isn’t just a tourist attraction—it’s a landmark infrastructure project,” a PMRDA official said. “It aligns with Maharashtra’s vision of world-class tourism hubs with unmatched connectivity and economic growth.”
