Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Naval Kishore Ram has been appointed as the new Municipal Commissioner of Pune, succeeding Rajendra Bhosale, who retires on May 31, 2025.

2008-batch IAS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, Ram is no stranger to Pune, having served as the Pune District Collector from 2018 to 2021. During his tenure, he was widely praised for his inclusive administrative approach, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, where his handling of migrant worker issues and public health challenges earned accolades from senior officials, including those in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Prior to this appointment, Ram worked as Joint Secretary (Revenue) in the Ministry of Finance and had earlier served in the PMO.

In a statement to media, Ram said, “I have worked in Pune and am aware of the issues. I will use my previous and current experience at the Central level for the betterment of the city.”

Originally from East Champaran, Bihar, Ram has also served in Nanded, Yavatmal, Beed, and Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad). His return is seen as a strategic move to ensure administrative continuity amid Pune’s rapid urban expansion and key infrastructure projects.
