Work Begins on Pune Ring Road Project, Completion Target Set for 2.5 Years

Pune, Maharashtra — In a major step toward transforming Pune’s transport infrastructure, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has officially kicked off construction on the ambitious Pune Ring Road project. With tendering completed and work orders issued to nine companies, the government aims to wrap up the 172-km-long project within the next two and a half years.
This 110-metre-wide outer ring road, with an estimated cost of ₹42,711 crore, is poised to significantly decongest traffic across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. The project is divided into two major stretches — the eastern section and the western section — and has received administrative approval from the Maharashtra cabinet just ahead of the state assembly election code of conduct.

99% Land Acquisition Complete
MSRDC officials confirmed that the land acquisition process is nearing completion. About 99% of land for the western section and 98% for the eastern section has already been secured. Specifically, 1,054.03 hectares have been acquired for the eastern part and 692.66 hectares for the western portion. Only 6 hectares remain, and the process of acquiring them is currently underway.
“We have issued work orders to the nine companies as per government directives. The target is to complete construction within 2.5 years,” said MSRDC official.

Work Underway Across Key Locations
Construction activities have commenced simultaneously across multiple nodes, including:
- Wadebolhai
- Khadakwasla
- Sinhagad
- Mulshi
- Urse
- Chakan
- Hinjawadi
- Soratwadi
Initial work involves leveling of hilly terrains, construction of bridges, and building embankments to ensure smoother progress during the upcoming monsoon season. All other phases are expected to advance in parallel.
Penalties for Delay
The official added that contractors are being held to strict timelines. Any firm failing to meet the construction deadlines will be penalized and made to pay compensation in line with government rules.
Project Phasing and Contracts
The eastern section is divided into seven phases, while the western part includes five. Construction contracts for all 11 packages have been awarded. Work is already underway on five packages, and the remaining are set to begin soon.
According to a statement by Infra News India (INI), MSRDC confirmed that 1741 out of 1747 hectares required for the project have already been acquired — signaling rapid progress and strong governmental backing.
