New Delhi, May 9, 2025 — The Indian Army will hold a high-level press briefing at 10:30 AM today to share critical updates on the ongoing Operation Sindoor, launched to dismantle terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The announcement comes after a night of heightened military activity along the India-Pakistan border, marked by cross-border drone and missile engagements.

Since the commencement of Operation Sindoor, Pakistan has responded with “cowardly and unprovoked aggression” across border regions. Tensions escalated significantly late Thursday night, May 8, and continued into the early hours of Friday, May 9, with multiple drone and missile attacks reported from Pakistani territory.

India confirmed that its military had neutralised several Pakistani aerial threats targeting key military installations in Jammu and Pathankot. The attacks were part of a broader offensive by Pakistan, which launched drone and missile strikes targeting Indian defense posts in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Explosions were reported in several areas including RS Pura, Arnia, Samba, Hiranagar, and Jaisalmer.

Indian air defense systems, including the S-400 missile defense platform, successfully intercepted these threats, ensuring that no major damage or casualties occurred. The Indian Army conducted widespread aerial surveillance through the night across border regions, with sirens and explosion sounds reported in areas such as Akhnoor, Samba, Baramulla, and Kupwara.

In a powerful counter-offensive, Indian forces targeted Pakistani military infrastructure, including air defense systems in Lahore. Sources within the defense establishment confirmed that Pakistan Air Force jets, including F-16s and JF-17 Thunders from the Sargodha air base, were intercepted and shot down by Indian fighter aircraft.

India also thwarted multiple Pakistani drone attacks aimed at military installations in Jammu, Udhampur, and Pathankot. Over 50 Pakistani drones were reportedly shot down in one of the largest-ever counter-drone operations conducted by Indian Army Air Defence units. These drones were neutralised across key districts including Udhampur, Samba, Jammu, Akhnoor, Nagrota, and Pathankot.

As tensions continue to rise, today’s Army press briefing is expected to outline India’s current operational posture, key developments under Operation Sindoor, and further responses to Pakistan’s aggressive tactics. The briefing will also aim to reassure the public and send a strong message to adversaries regarding India’s readiness to defend its sovereignty.
