New Government-Approved Cab Fares in Pune: Ola, Uber, and Rapido Implement Revised Rates

Pune residents relying on app-based cab services like Ola, Uber, and Rapido will now have to pay updated fares as per government-approved rates. The new pricing structure, effective since May 1, was finalized during a meeting by the Indian Gig Workers Front (IGWF). While the move aims to standardize fares, it has sparked mixed reactions among commuters.
What’s Changed?
The revised fare system applies to cabs operating in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Baramati. To prevent disputes between passengers and drivers, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has issued a clear fare chart. Here’s a quick breakdown of the updated rates per kilometer:
- AC Cabs: ₹25 per km
- Non-AC Cabs: ₹21 per km
For longer distances, the charges scale accordingly. For example, a 10 km ride in an AC cab will cost ₹250, while a non-AC ride for the same distance will be ₹210.
Commuter Reactions
The sudden change has left many Punekars frustrated, with several taking to social media to express their concerns. Some passengers claim the revised fares make cabs less affordable, while others blame drivers for overcharging despite the new rules. Confusion over the pricing has even led to arguments between riders and cab operators.
RTO Steps In
To minimize conflicts, the RTO has distributed official rate cards to drivers, ensuring transparency. Commuters are advised to check the fare chart before booking to avoid misunderstandings.
While the new system aims to bring uniformity, only time will tell if it eases Pune’s cab fare woes or adds to the commuters’ frustrations.
