In a major step towards encouraging sustainable transportation, the Maharashtra government has announced a 100 percent toll waiver for electric four-wheelers and electric buses on some of the most crucial expressways in the state. Under the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy 2025, the following expressways will now be toll-free for eligible EVs:

  • Mumbai–Pune Expressway
  • Atal Setu (Mumbai Trans Harbour Link)
  • Samruddhi Mahamarg (Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Expressway)

In addition, electric vehicles will get a 50% toll discount on other state and national highways managed by the Maharashtra Public Works Department (PWD). This significant policy move not only encourages the adoption of electric mobility but also aims to reduce the carbon footprint on high-traffic corridors.

But that’s not all—EV buyers in Maharashtra can now benefit from a suite of additional incentives:

  • No motor vehicle tax
  • No registration or renewal charges
  • Discounts on new EV purchases till 2030
  • 10% discount on base prices of electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, non-transport four-wheelers, and electric buses operated by state and private urban transport bodies

The announcement aligns with Maharashtra’s broader objective of promoting green, safe, and affordable mobility. A statement from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ office confirmed the state’s commitment to fostering an EV-friendly infrastructure and offering financial incentives to boost adoption rates.

As the country continues to move toward cleaner transportation solutions, Maharashtra’s bold policy could serve as a model for other Indian states to follow.
