Recent Recognition for Manu Bhaker
The tragedy unfolded just two days after Manu Bhaker was awarded the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award by President Draupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Bhaker, at only 22 years old, has become a symbol of excellence and resilience in Indian sports.
Manu Bhaker’s Remarkable Olympic Journey
During the 2024 Paris Olympics, Manu Bhaker made history by becoming independent India’s first athlete to win two medals in a single edition of the Games. She earned a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event, becoming the first Indian woman shooter to secure an Olympic medal. Shortly after, she teamed up with Sarabjot Singh to claim another bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event—the first-ever shooting team medal for India at the Olympics.
Bhaker’s road to glory was not without challenges. After a disappointing debut in Tokyo 2021, she made a strong comeback with a team gold medal at the Asian Games. Reuniting with her coach, Jaspal Rana, Bhaker delivered one of the most memorable performances of her career in Paris.
A Community in Mourning
The tragic accident has left the local community and Bhaker’s supporters in deep mourning. The young shooter, who has consistently brought pride to the nation, now faces a personal loss amid her professional triumphs.
