Zoomcar Theft in Hinjawadi: Solapur Man Books Maruti Swift for 15 Days, Disappears with ₹5 Lakh Vehicle

Pune: A shocking case of alleged car theft has been reported from Hinjawadi, where a man has been booked for allegedly stealing a rented car he hired through the Zoomcar app. The accused failed to return the vehicle after the rental period ended.
According to the police, the accused rented a silver-coloured Maruti Suzuki Swift from a car owner in Hinjawadi. The incident took place between January 13 and March 15, 2026, in the Hirai Sitai Road area of Hinjawadi.
The complainant, Suhas Suresh Nikate (32), a resident of Hinjawadi, stated in his FIR that the accused, a resident of Shivaji Nagar in Madha Tehsil of Solapur district, booked his car through the Zoomcar platform for a period of 15 days. The car, a silver Maruti Suzuki Swift with registration number MH 13 EC 9938, is valued at ₹5,00,000.
However, after the 15-day rental period concluded on or around January 28, 2026, Bhange failed to return the vehicle to the owner. After waiting for over a month and a half, Nikate approached the Hinjawadi Police Station to lodge a formal complaint.
Based on his complaint, the police have registered a case against the accused.
Zoomcar is an app-based self-drive car rental service that allows users to rent vehicles for a few hours or several days. Customers can book cars through the mobile app or website, unlock them digitally, and drive them themselves, paying based on time, distance, or subscription plans. The police are currently investigating the matter and are on the lookout for the accused.
