Yet Another Fatal Accident in Hinjawadi: 19-Year-Old Student Killed After Cement Mixer Hits Scooter
Pune, November 22, 2025: A 19-year-old woman from Viman Nagar died in a fatal accident in Hinjawadi on Friday afternoon after a cement mixer truck hit a scooter near Shinde Vasti Chowk in Marunji. Her friend, who was riding the scooter, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.
The victim has been identified as Rida Imran Khan, a commerce student from Pune. She was returning from Kasarsai Dam along with her friends when the accident occurred around 2 pm. According to police, Rida was riding pillion and fell under the rear wheels of the truck after the impact. The incident has once again highlighted concerns about rising road mishaps involving heavy vehicles in the area.
Hinjawadi Police Take Driver Into Custody
The Hinjawadi police detained the truck driver, identified as Ajmal Akhtar Ansari, and a case of accidental death is being registered. The accident took place during permitted hours for heavy vehicle movement, as such vehicles are restricted within Pimpri Chinchwad limits during peak hours in the morning and evening.
Multiple Fatal Accidents Reported This Year
The fatal accident in Hinjawadi is the fifth major heavy-vehicle-related crash in the Hinjawadi-Marunji region in the last four months and the second fatal incident this week. Four days earlier, a 20-year-old college student died after falling under a dumper’s rear wheels. Residents say the growing movement of construction vehicles in the IT corridor is putting commuters at risk.
Residents and Activists Demand Stricter Rules
Local IT professionals and activists have criticised poor road conditions and lack of safety measures on heavy vehicles.
- Roads in Hinjawadi remain uneven and congested, making two-wheeler riders vulnerable
- Many heavy vehicles travel without cleaners, increasing blind spot risks
- Calls for installation of dashcams, rear cameras, and anti-collision sensors are growing
Pavanjit Mane from FITE Maharashtra said heavy vehicles should not be allowed without mandatory safety systems and support staff. Residents also want enforcement on transport companies, not only drivers.
