The winter chill has arrived earlier than usual across Maharashtra, with several districts recording a sudden and sharp drop in night temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed that minimum temperatures have fallen by nearly 4–6°C in just four to five days, signalling the clear onset of winter across North-Central Maharashtra, including Pune.

Anupam Kashyapi, former head of weather forecasting at IMD Pune, said, “With around a 4–6°C fall in night temperature in just 4–5 days, winter has arrived in North-Central Maharashtra and even in Pune. There is no rain chance in November according to IMD’s Extended Range Forecast (ERF). The clear sky and dry northerly winds are increasing the winter feel. People should take precautions against cold and cough.”

Significant Temperature Drop Across the State
Weather scientist Dr. Vineet Kumar shared that several districts are now witnessing below-normal temperatures by large margins. The departures from normal are as follows:

  • Jalgaon: 9.2°C (-6.7°C)
  • Beed: 11.4°C (-5.1°C)
  • Akola: 12.5°C (-5.6°C)
  • Amravati: 11.7°C (-5.4°C)
  • Gondia: 10.5°C (-6.6°C)
  • Yavatmal: 11.4°C (-6.4°C)
  • Washim: 11.8°C (-5.1°C)
  • Chandrapur: 14.4°C (-4.1°C)
  • Buldhana: 13.7°C (-4.4°C)

Cold, Dry Days Ahead
Experts attribute the temperature drop to a combination of clear skies, reduced moisture, and the flow of northerly winds. These conditions are expected to persist, keeping mornings crisp and nights colder in the coming days.

Residents across Maharashtra, including Pune, Nagpur, and Aurangabad, are advised to stay warm, especially during the early morning hours, and take precautions against cold-related illnesses.
