Wagholi Residents Block Pune Commissioner’s Car to Protest Poor Civic Conditions

Residents Frustrated Over Lack of Basic Amenities
In a dramatic protest on Wednesday, residents of Wagholi stopped the vehicle of Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram to highlight the civic neglect in their area. Locals said that despite Wagholi being merged with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in 2017, they are still struggling without basic facilities like proper roads, drainage, and waste management.
Poor Roads, Drainage Issues, and Garbage Problems
Residents complained that damaged roads, clogged drains, and irregular garbage collection have made daily life increasingly difficult. They said that even though they pay regular taxes, they are not getting the basic civic services they deserve. Many pointed out that while the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) handles project approvals, PMC is responsible for execution — and the lack of coordination between the two agencies has left the area in disarray.

Civic Inaction and Growing Anger
Locals claimed that they have raised these issues several times with the authorities, but there has been no visible action. They said they had no choice but to stop the Commissioner’s vehicle to draw attention to their problems, as repeated complaints had gone unheard.
Lack of Coordination Between PMC and PMRDA
Residents from nearby areas such as Keshav Nagar and Mundhwa echoed similar concerns, stating that the absence of clear coordination between PMC and PMRDA is delaying the implementation of essential services. Despite being part of an expanding urban zone, they feel their needs are being ignored.
Residents Losing Faith in Civic Administration
Several citizens expressed disappointment over the deteriorating condition of infrastructure in the area. They said it is ironic that a growing suburb of Pune continues to struggle for basic amenities like proper roads, drainage, water supply, and garbage collection.
PMC Promises Action
Responding to the protest, Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram assured that the civic body would look into the matter and take the necessary steps soon. However, residents remain skeptical until they see real improvements on the ground.
