Undri Residents Threaten Agitation Over Crumbling Roads and Pollution; Supriya Sule Urges PMC Action

Undri Residents Threaten Agitation

Pune: The residents of Undri are reaching a breaking point as the stretch from Mayuri Weigh Bridge to Tata Inora Park continues to deteriorate, turning a vital commute into a daily nightmare. Member of Parliament Supriya Sule has now stepped in, calling on the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to address the dual menace of infrastructure collapse and rising pollution in the area.

The road in question serves as a primary artery for local housing societies and schools. However, the influx of heavy vehicles, primarily serving a nearby Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) plant, has accelerated the road’s destruction. Local residents allege that the constant movement of these heavy trucks has not only riddled the stretch with dangerous potholes but has also led to a significant spike in air pollution.

Health Concerns and Administrative Apathy

Beyond the bumpy ride, the environmental impact is becoming a health hazard. Dust and emissions from the RMC plant operations and the heavy traffic have reportedly led to respiratory issues among locals.

Despite multiple written complaints submitted by residents to the Pune Municipal Corporation and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), no concrete action has been taken so far.

Residents Turn to Protest

Frustrated by the lack of response from the authorities, the local community has now warned of an upcoming agitation to draw attention to their plight. Taking up their cause, Supriya Sule highlighted the issue on social media, urging the Municipal Commissioner to intervene.

“The road is in a state of total shambles. Residents are facing serious health problems due to the pollution. I request the Municipal Commissioner to take serious note of the distress being caused to the citizens and initiate appropriate action immediately,” Sule stated.

As the monsoon season approaches, the urgency for repairs is at an all-time high to prevent the stretch from becoming completely unnavigable.
