Traffic Jams Continue On Pune-Mumbai Expressway Even After Diwali Holidays
Mumbai/Pune, October 30, 2025: Despite the end of the Diwali holidays, heavy traffic continues to trouble commuters on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway. Vehicles are moving at a snail’s pace in several sections, particularly near the Lonavala and Khandala Ghats, leaving travellers frustrated.
Even though the festive season concluded over the weekend, major highways connecting Pune – including the Pune–Mumbai Expressway, the Old Mumbai–Pune Highway, and the Pune–Bengaluru Highway – witnessed severe congestion. The surge in returning traffic also slowed movement on internal roads leading to these highways, worsening the situation.

On Sunday, traffic jams intensified, with long lines of vehicles seen at toll plazas and major entry and exit points around Pune. Extra police personnel were stationed to ease the flow, but several routes still saw delays stretching up to a few hours.
Similar traffic build-ups were reported on the Pune–Ahmednagar Highway near Wagholi and Shirur, the Pune–Nashik Highway around Chakan and Alephata, and the Pune–Solapur Highway near Uruli Kanchan.
Adding to the commuters’ woes, brief spells of rain made driving conditions even more difficult.
