Pune News, June 15, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has doubled its pothole repair teams in response to a sharp rise in complaints from citizens. Since March 2025, the civic body has received complaints regarding 2,373 potholes, of which 2,336 have been repaired, officials confirmed.

To tackle the issue more efficiently, PMC has increased its repair teams from 20 to 45. Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram is personally monitoring progress, reviewing repair work twice daily—once in the morning and again in the evening.

“We have doubled the strength of our repair teams to respond faster. I personally review the repair work to ensure timely resolution,” said Ram.

Priority Given to High-Traffic Roads

Aniruddha Pawaskar, head of PMC’s road department, stated that the civic body is prioritizing main roads with heavy traffic flow, followed by smaller internal roads. This strategy aims to minimize disruptions for commuters while ensuring smoother travel across the city.

Concerns Over Durability of Repairs

However, some residents remain skeptical about the longevity of these repairs. A civic activist, pointed out, “While pothole repair is done at lightning speed, the material often gets washed off within two to three days, bringing us back to square one.”

The PMC has yet to comment on the durability concerns but assures citizens that efforts are being made to improve road conditions ahead of the monsoon season.
